Stage Six was unbelievable! Three riders ride away from the peloton over a flattish stage and average 49km/h for over 150kms! Two Iranians from the Tabriz-Petrochemical Team were doing all the work and hauling their 54-11s all day long, even going 57km/h at one stage up a hill. Behind them was a full-on chase with all the big teams and they were doing 60km/h for over 2hrs, but still could not catch the trio. Serbia’s Golden Boy was holding on to them for dear life and was crying from the pain in his legs! At the finish, all the teams were stunned and could not believe what had happened.
The main commissaire said that he thought that they were super-strong and he had never seen anything like it in his career of officiating UCI races, including the Tour de France.
